Poll Worker Information
Qualifications to be a Poll Worker
- Must be a registered voter (Democrat or Republican)
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Oneida County Resident
- Cannot hold a public office or be running for public office in the district where you will be working or be the spouse, parent or child of a such person
- Speak, read and write the English Language
- Must attend an official training class offered by the Board of Elections
- Must pass a Training Exam each year to be re-certified
Poll Site Coordinator Responsibilities
- Arrive on time at your polling site on Election Day
- 5:15 A.M. for a Primary Election and the General Election. Voting for Primary and General Elections begins at 6:00 A.M.
- Prepare the polling site for voting
- Accounting for and distributing all the day’s election supplies
- Contacting the Board of Elections with any questions, concerns or issues
- Open and close of the polls correctly and on time
- Operation of Optical Scan Voting Systems
- Maintain order at the polling site
- Ensuring that all required forms are filled out completely and accurately in pen
- Announcing vote results at the end of the night and assist in filling in Statement of Canvass
- Making sure payroll sheets are signed and all supplies are returned to the Election Supply Bags
- Deliver Zero Tape, Results Tape and Machine Data Card (from each Voting Machine) to the designated Regional Site
- Deliver the Election Supply Bags to either the Board of Elections or the designated Regional Site
- Attend a training class every year
Poll Inspector Responsibilities
- Arrive on time at your polling site on Election Day
- 5:15 A.M. for a Primary Election and the General Election. Voting for Primary and General Elections begins at 6:00 A.M.
- Organize Election Day supplies
- Help Poll Site Coordinators set-up and maintain the physical layout of the polling site
- Assist in Opening and Closing the Optical Scan Voting System
- Process qualified voters
- Rotate tasks and share the work
- Complete all necessary paperwork
- Canvass and report the results
- Help maintain order at the polling site
- Follow all Board of Election Procedures
- Attend a training class every year
